Nausea

Nausea causes a feeling of discomfort and unease in the stomach and head and is usually accompanied by an urge to vomit.

This is not considered an illness in itself rather, a symptom of a varying range of conditions, many of which are not even related to the stomach. One common cause of Nausea is the use of drugs, in particular opiates – this would be more common in situations such as surgical procedures. One may experience nausea if they have too much intake of sugary foods also.

and there are many more to be considered however it is best that your medical doctor checks you over to diagnose the underlying cause for your nausea.

Nausea, depending on the reason for it, is usually reasonably easy to treat – it can be as simple as having small portions when eating, ingesting crushed ice or, if the nausea is due to something such as motion sickness, sitting in an environment that is still.

When the nausea is caused by something more serious, your medical practitioner may suggest things such as anti-emetic medications that will help to alleviate the nausea. One commonly used after surgery is Odansetron.

Nausea caused by pregnancy can be treated by using Doxylamine – this needs to be prescribed by your medical practitioner.

If you are concerned about the side effects of pharmaceutical treatment for nausea you can rest easy knowing that there are also some natural solutions available – peppermint and ginger have been used for hundreds of years as an aid to alleviating nausea and is widely recognised as being effective.

Bismuth is also a common remedy for nausea and can be found in regular, over the counter medications for your stomach including Pepto-Bismal.
